Is it normal to hate when people say "nice try"

For example, today I dived for a ball (baseball). It was just out of my reach. After the inning, my teammates (don't get me wrong--I'm friends with every one of them) were all like "nice try" and "good job" even though I couldn't catch it. I couldn't stand it! If I caught it, then it would be fine. Since I didn't catch it, I'd rather them give me advice for the next one or say something like "it's alright... You'll get the next one." "Good job" is something to say if I did catch it, but if I didn't, it just makes me feel bad. IIN?

    Well "nice try" means it was a "good try" though I see your point that telling you how to fix it would be more helpful.

    Rose is right, But if it bugs u that much, maybe you should talk to your team mates, I play soccer and one of my teammates gets upset when we say nice try after he completly missed the net. The reason why ur team mates say this is because they want to keep ur confidence higher n instead of feeling embarased that u missed it, to feel like to them the fact that u tried was good. So maybe you should tell them that it does the opposite for u

    Your too competitive. Just try looking at the game as fun more than a battle with the other team. Your teammates are not saying that to be condecending, they're being sincere. Take it as such and allow yourself to not take the game so serious!

    Just be glad they don't say "way to f@ck up"....be relieved people are nice to you instead of being ungrateful.

    I feel the same way ,I'm a volleyball player and when I mess up my team tells me nice try or comes to slap my hand and encourage me but it just makes me feel even worse !
