Is it normal to hate turning 18 this year?

So basically I keep having this thought that I'm going to hate it when I'm 18 years old, considering that I'm going to turn 18 this year.

You seem like you'd be the type of parent who'd give your kid a really good childhood and help them grow into a good adult, so I'm gonna guess you feel good. =3

Oh and Happy Birthday to your kid!

Are you afraid of becoming an adult? It seems intimidating at first because it's something you've never experienced and you've probably heard a lot of mixed things about it from other people.

In my opinion, adulthood is what you make it for the most part, and if you make good choices, it is usually very rewarding.

I'm 25 and the best years of my life so far have been as an adult. Leaving high school and starting my adult life was the best thing that ever happened to me. Taking on new responsibilities seemed scary at first, but to be honest, most of it is common sense. Budget your money well, don't go blowing it on a bunch of things that aren't necessities (though of course, the occasional splurge when you can afford it is completely fine), and pay your bills on time. Show up to work on time and do what you're told. Obviously there's more, but these are some of the biggest things IMO.

As an adult, I've also become so much more confident, secure, and independent. It's great.

I know some people say stuff like "high school is the best 4 years of your life" or "it's all downhill after 21", but I totally disagree. To me, it just keeps getting better. As long as you keep working towards bettering your life and accomplishing your goals (and of course being responsible, which is not nearly as hard as a lot of people make it out to be), you should have a pretty fulfilling adult life.

Being 18 means you have more freedoms now. You can rent a hotel, you can be out after midnight (or the curfew time where you live). You can legally rent an apartment/house, etc. Look at it that way.

At 18 you should find some kind of union/seniority type job or start an apprenticeship like roofing, plumbing. Use it as a backup plan. If you get a job part time at UPS or USPostOffice you will be able to bid jobs based on how long you have been working at the company. so once ur around 20-23 you'll be able to get a $30+ an hour fulltime job there. Doing those part time jobs is great while ur in school or pursuing another career (UPS pays for some of your college) . If it doesnt work out ur still gonna make a middle class wage as a young man.

I feel like at 18 you have to get a plan on what ur gonna do. You cant wait. If you get an early start its better. You need to find something legit and not a fastfood type job. You really have to get it together now. Dont be like those cool kids that smoke weed all day and work part time at mcdonalds. Those kids wont be so cool when they are 30. You'll be cool with your boats and shit

You’re right, it’s shit year to turn 18.

I wonder if the people a few years younger than me (18, 19 and 20 year-olds) will take longer than normal to get married and “settle down” as they will want to “make up for lost time” after spending their early adulthood like this.

Well you will become an adult in the eyes of the world. You can now go to the grown up prison if you screw up. So be careful. The fun and safe days are over soon.
