Is it normal to hate toast because it scratches my mouth?

I hate toast, I just hate it! I hate it because it scratches the innards of my mouth and makes tiny cuts in my gum and palate. I can't stop licking the little cuts and it annoys me to no end.

Whenever I tell people I don't like toast and the reason, they look funnily at me and say that my mouth is too soft.

Is it normal that my mouth gets scratched by toast?

  • I feel the same way and I didn’t know if this was normal either. I hate toasted bread for this reason. I’ve told this to multiple people and they say they have no idea what I’m talking about. It could just be that people have varying degrees of sensitivity to texture.

  • Toast cuts the roof of my mouth too, chips don't seem to bother it. I prefer my toast soft, and never toast it for too long, but if it is crispy, it will cut my mouth. This has only started happening recently, like the last 3 years of my adult life. I do not know if this is normal.

  • Ok...so you're complaining about the feel of it as it scratches your throat.

Maybe stop eating it then? Lol

  • toast shouldn't be stratching your mouth unless it has been in the toaster to long.Toast it so that it is golden and put some margarine or butter on it and it will soften it up.
I know what you mean though.I don't like captain crunch cereal because it scratches my mouth.

  • I do eat untoasted toast (i.e. white bread) all the time. Also, lightly toasted and non-crunchy toast is just hot bread, which I doubt can be called toast. I also do eat toast sometimes, but usually slowly and carefully, and I don't particularly enjoy the experience.

As for chips, they don't scratch my mouth, which is odd when I think about it. But maybe because chips are usually smaller and I can chew them before they do anything.

  • When I started reading your post the 1st thing I thought was that your mouth must b really soft and then I read that your friends think this also. Is it just toast or chips too because I find that they would b more likely to cut than toast would. I've never cut my mouth eating it. Maybe do as above poster suggested and try very lightly toasting it, it's awesome and it's a shame u miss out on something so yummy!

  • I honestly don't see how toast can cut your mouth, rather than it cutting you it's more like the sensation of getting crumbs all over the place. You could lightly toast your bread or don't toast it at all. Look, it's plain white bread for breakfast...lol
