  • It's Gaelic. They pronounce letters different in that language.

By the way according to this link it's shuh-VAN. It's apparently an Irish version of Joan.

  • I like it. I actually like it more when you pronounce it incorrectly like you do... It makes it sound exotic.

  • I'm from the south USA and down here we spell it Chivonne, like how it
sounds. I never knew it was spelled the other way until Sarah Michelle Gellar's
new show came out a few weeks ago.

  • It's Irish and pronounced Shev-on.

    Joke: Knock, knock.
    Who's there?
    Shev-on
    Shevon who?
Shevon your knickers your mom's at the door!

Personally I hate the name Morag - it just sounds so doom and gloom!

  • The thing about Irish names is that they are spelled one way but are pronounced a completely different way! It's normal to hate it. I don't like The name Mordred (I think it's spelled like that) and some others.

  • I like it spelt "shevaun" Or "chevonne" though, I just think the way it's spelt "siobhan" is ugly :/

  • I hate it. I have a cousin called Chevonne which is pronounced the exact same way but Chevonne looks prettier.
But Siobhan is an irish name and you know how the irish are with spelling names.

  • Oh yeah and the name I hate is Seth. It seems almost demonic...

  • I agree, it's pretty ugly. So is Matilda. Why would anyone in their right mind name their child Matilda.

  • It's an Irish thing. There are quite a few names spelled or pronounced unexpectedly. Niamh for example is pronounced as Neeve.

    • They are spelt according to the original Irish language - Gaelic.

  • When Siobhan Magnus was a contestant on American Idol a couple of years ago, that was the first time I had encountered the name and I thought it was really bizarre. I made fun of her by calling her "Soy Ban". But eventually the name kind of grew on me and now I would consider giving an original character that name.
