    Actually some of their jokes are more sophisticated, which does require more intelligence, it's a show about nerds so that's expected.

    Some people just don't get humor.

      If you notice, whenever they make a "sophisticated" joke, they explain beforehand the reference they talk about. They do that 100% of the times, just watch and you will notice. Usually Sheldon is the one who says: "are you familiar with X theory?"
