There could be loads of reasons why he acts that way...
It could be since he's older, he feels like he needs to exert his power and dominance over you to keep you in check.
Or, since he's older, he thinks you're still an immature little kid rather than a young adult, and treats you as such.
He might be jealous of you or ashamed of himself, and tries to make you feel bad to get a self-esteem boost.
Misery loves company; he could be particularly miserable and wants you to feel the same so he's not alone.
It could be a combination of all those things, plus many more.
You dont seem like you're doing anything to intentionally pester him or anything, so I'm not sure why he has to act so hateful towards you. He probably has his own issues that he really needs to work on and his only way of dealing with them is through hurting you.
Personally if I was in your situation, I'd ignore him to the best of my ability. Don't try to be friendly with him as he obviously does not want your friendship. Maybe give him the occasional smile and wave, but otherwise keep out of his way, see what happens.
Oh and just remember that when he's calling you a dumbass, he's really saying it to himself.
