  • I partially understand because I am harrassed by cyclists too. As an experiment, I have been a total pedestrian for the past six months (no vehicles of any kind, even self-powered). Cyclists often don't obey the traffic lights and think that red only applies to cars. I've been clipped more times than I remember.

However, as a past cyclist, I remember feeling the same way about the ignorance of people in cars. I appreciate both viewpoints now and also the viewpoint of drivers who get frustrated too. However (and there really is a "however"), with power comes responsibility and you take to the road in a mobile killing machine, whether you mean to kill or not.

Over five times as many people have died as a result of automobile accidents as did during World War II. Given that, in built up areas, around 20% of fatalities are pedestrians and ~4% cyclists, they've had losses comparable to a year of world war, and we pedestrians have had the full war's worth. Puts it into focus, eh?
