Same for me. It always seems like the most popular songs seem to have very little lyrical meaning, and do not represent the bands greatest songs. People claim to be Nirvana fans, having only heard Lithium and Smells Like Teen Spirit.
It seems to me like a band will release a radio-friendly song as a single because record companies want them to. They then write a good song and put that as a B-side to the single, so they can still push music that represents them whilst keeping a record company happy.
