Is it normal to hate perfumes or other scents?

So my mom has a perfume allergy/sensitivity and I may have inherited it but I’m not sure. Any strong, artificial smell makes the air feel heavy and makes me cough, sometimes I have to leave the room. It feels like I’m drowning tbh. Other then that I don’t have any other allergy symptoms
Is it perfume sensitivity, allergy, normal, or something else?

Sensitivity 10
Allergy 1
Normal 3
Not normal 0

  • I hate them. I hate when someone walks by and they stink of it too. Smells so artificial. Hippies who stink like patchouli oil are vile also.

Not all perfumes smell nice, and a lot of people overdo them.

Yeah, I have family with that same issue. Even my mom has said she only smells chemicals when smelling perfume. Cologne does that to her too. She has asthma though, so she has difficulty breathing as well.
If you don't have any allergic reactions, than it's probs just the quality of the perfume or personal preferences for certain smells.

depends on how much we are talking about, I actually prefer 'no scent' over perfume but that's just me

I seem to prefer essential oil scents over the smell of artificial fragrances more, and more. Cheap perfumes can make me gag, but I have actually encountered a person once who thought my favorite department store fragrance was just awful. I've even met people who don't like the natural scent of essential oils. I guess it's all a personal matter of preference, but I do personally tend to think that the artificial smell of cheap perfume is just pointless.

  • I am the same. I can't stand the smell of perfume. Its to strong and makes me sneeze. It tends to be worse with actual perfume but deodorant or aftershave can upset me if the person puts to much on.
