Hate is a much overused expression, often in situations when it's not genuinely felt. And when it is expressed, the real reason behind it is often to be found elsewhere. So much online 'hate' is merely a release of frustration at something else in the life of those using it. It's so easy to take your anger out on someone by hiding behind a username online. It's also a cowardly demonstration of the weakness, character flaws and failings of those who indulge in it.
Whether it's normal, or not, is irrelevant - it's the 'hate' part which needs to be addressed. If everyone expressed their contrary opinions and even their dislike of someone/something without resorting to insult and extremely unpleasant remarks, the Internet would be a far more civilised and enjoyable experience.
The Internet is international. We are all stuck with everyone who speaks English, which is most of the world. The happy friendliness of Ireland will eventually crumble as people become cacooned into a completely on-line existence.
You could try social media in a different language.
