Is it normal that I despise my father? I have never really connected with him as he used to abuse me when I was really young and now he denies it ever happened. And his generally attitude to everyone is fucking bullshit and my worst fear in life is to be like him. So is it normal?!
At some point in my life my positive mantra was , " you aren't your parents." although I was and am an angst ridden teenager and am over that now. Not saying you are. ( angst ridden teenager , that is.)
Even though he is your father, it's normal to not like him if he was abusive toward you. It's him that's not normal obviously.
That's one of my biggest fears, to become like he is. My family are always telling me that I should be nice to him as he is 'trying' but I don't really want anything to do with him. I feel like i am in a war against his DNA that is in me. Thanks for your feedback, I really do appreciate it.
keep reminding yourself not to be like him all yr life and youll be fine. it sucks not having a good role model and friend for a father, foolish of him
I feel the same way and have the same fear. Whenever I'm afraid if I'm turning into my dad, I reassure myself that at least I'm aware of what I don't want to be. And as I'm thinking about having kids, I look for men who don't have the flaws my dad had. I want my kids to have a good father unlike I did.
