Yes it is normal, Mc Donalds support factory farming and their food is so full of chemicals it is border line almost not being allowed to be called food.
most food is like that anyways, even the "fresh" ground beef at your local supermarket. The only way I know to avoid this is go to a farmer's market or a certified organic grocer. Be prepared to pay big though, organic food is expensive.
Also, even something labelled "natural" or organic may not be quite so, so be careful.
