I wouldn't really say its normal. I'm not a female but I certainly know that not everyone even gets hit on so while some people go "Oh great, its some pathetic guy again" or "Why won't they go away! =/", someone else is wishing they got that attention at all, ever. Try not to take attention for granted. I do see one side of it though, a person might feel that a guy who gives such direct compliments right away may be looking for the wrong things but I think being direct shows guts. Even as a guy though, I feel pretty darn great during the rare times I get a compliment, why not just appreciate it? It boosts self esteem and you don't have to date who hits on you, just say thanks and proceed to feel good about yourself.
Crying about someone who likes you though, the only acceptable tears would be tears of joy.
