Is it normal to hate furries?

To start off, some background: I'm a therian (look it up) and people keep grouping me into the 'furries' catagory (look that up also... on second though, you're better off not knowing) and I hate it... Hate furries... And then people get all defensive when I correct them. All my close friends don't seem to understand why I hate furries. No, I'm not trolling, but I want the clear, unbiased opinion: Is it normal to hate furries?

Is It Normal?

  • Im a therian too, and I am often put into that class, but I dont hate furries at all. I still think this is normal though.

  • So it's fine for you to be a therian, but it's wrong to draw anthropomorphic art or wear costumes? I don't understand your problem... You've said you hate them, but why?

  • For a therian it is normal to hate furries.
    I'll tell you why:

First off, therians believe they are somehow related to REAL animals and strictly adhere to the real behavior of said animals.
Furries anthropomorphize animals in art and in literature, and this very much contradicts the therian norm.

Yet, there are some (especially (biologically) younger) therians who are also "furries".
Some furries believe their fursona is their theriotype - although, a theriotype is based on a real animal, which means they are not actually therians, but rather otherkin.

The difference between therian and otherkin is as follows:
Therian: Believes they (once?) are/were (to be?) in some way a non-human animal - a non-human animal that actually is known to exist, and this is often a generic/popular "noble"/"stereotypically" animal (such as a wolf or cat).
Otherkin: Believes they were a fictional animal/creature/plant/object/humanoid, such as a werewolf, dragon, anthropomorphic animal, alien, elf, dwarf, any-bestiary-listed-creature, robot, vampire, anything-you've-seen-on-tv-you-thought-was-pretty-cool-so-you-must-be-it, etc.

An otherkin is likely to be pretty ok with furries, but a archetypal therian is far less likely.
Though, certain therians/otherkin may well participate in the furry community to reap all of its "creative", "social", "adult" or "drama" worth.

So if you are a therian but are furry, then it's most likely because you are just interested in the two concepts, perhaps due to the similarity. But you would be more careful not to anthropomorphize real animals or use animal stereotypes (at least not too often).

  • I don't really think believing you're an animal (if that's what you believe - I saw the blog of some crazy woman who called herself a therian and said she was a dragon in a human body) is any more normal than pretending to be an animal when you have sex... but if you want to hate them, go ahead. I don't think anybody likes furries unless they are one.
