My father is like this too. He's an extremely prickly man and you can see him visibly blanching if someone comes near him. We all put it down to his childhood and his personality. But that's to imply there's something wrong with him, when the actuality is just that people are different. What one person finds normal, another doesn't. It's unusual to be so against tactility, though.
