Yes, the stereotypical otaku are annoying. (Seriously, they act all weeaboo-ish, then get sad because they don't understand why people don't like them?)
But to lose respect for someone because they like anime is stupid.
I'm an otaku. And I don't act like that. I don't flaunt my love for anime like the stereotypical weeaboos and otaku. I like InuYasha, Naruto, School Rumble, and hell, Ouran High School Host Club amuses me every once in a while. I have a lot of traits that can cause someone to dislike me. But for someone to dislike me because I watch anime? That's stupid.
Hating anime is like hating movies or tv shows; just like there are films for everyone, there are anime for everyone. Whether it's something serious like Death Note, action-packed like DBZ, humorous like Princess Jellyfish, or romantic like RomeoxJuliet; there's something for everyone.
