Is it normal to HATE a kid?

  • Just a guess here... but I'm guessing your neighbor divorced that child's father because he was beating her.

That's how a five year old exposed to domestic violence acts, and yes, it's just as wrong to hate him for being abused as it would be to hate his mother for having been abused. Having the people around him reject him for acting out isn't going to stop him from acting out and will most likely make the behavior escalate.

You have to remember that this child isn't acting *on* his feelings, he's acting *out* his feelings. The difference between the two is that acting on feelings makes your actions a genuine reflection of your emotions. Acting out feelings isn't. He could be anything from hungry to bored, but if the only way he's been shown to deal with stress is by acting violently, that's going to be how he acts out whenever he feels *any* stress.

He's not bad or mean. He's a victim of domestic violence.
