I find that strategy easier because I only have to exercise restraint for a few moments when I see the junk food in the supermarket. If I buy the stuff, then I have to deal with the constant thought in the back of my head when I'm home that something yummy is in the cupboard.
Self-restraint is not one of my strengths, and fortunately the people I live with aren't that keen on sweet stuff, so they don't miss it if we don't buy it. Their weakness is cheese and other fatty stuff, and I have no problems resisting that.
