Yes, I've felt this way before. And I've been in the same situation as you with the sports and all. My brother, a Met fan, and my brother in law, a Yankee fan, both get at each other sometimes b/c of it. They sometimes try to get me to pick sides, but I'm just like "whatever", because I'm not a baseball fan. And even when I'm sitting in the living room watching it, I only watch it because its on the tv. But I'm really not paying attention to it.
Anyway, don't worry about picking sides when it comes to miniscule things like that. You can turn away and be silent for the small silly things like sports. But do speak your mind, and voice your own opinion for the things that really matter. For the things that could make a difference, that might actually need your voice. You can't turn yourself off from making decisions in life, because one day you might actually have no choice, but to decide.
I'm just refering to things that don't concern me. Topics like abortion is one. I guess you can say I lean toward Pro-choice because I feel that "abortion deals with a woman's body; I'm not a woman so, I shouldn't be a part in this debate" And LGBT rights is another in the that same area of "I don't fall in that category. They're still rational thinking, feeling human beings, so I don't see what's the problem." I guess it's more when people are radical, that's when I want to go against them.
Is it normal to go against people if I can't be neutral?
