Divorce is not the only option to a failed relationship. For those who have never gone through a divorce its probably nothing more than a word and a seemingly easy action.
But its not, there is or can be much more to divorce than meets the eye and that most people can understand. I've been there and done that so I can speak from experience.
After 10 years two people will have a significant amount of their lives intertwined in every aspect, bills, investments like homes etc., kids, and more. Its a long, dirty, ugly, painful process to get things untangled...unless one person opts to leave with nothing and start over from scratch. This means starting over with significant debt if you have kids either way.
The saying its "Its Cheaper to Keep Her" is real.
If two people can manage to live their separate lives under one roof, it might be an ugly alternative to the even uglier alternative of divorce. I'd say more people opt for the least ugly lifestyle and keep their standard of living etc in tact vs. divorce.
In my estimation given the 100% of married people, I'd say only 10% or less are actually happy and are still in a growing thriving relationship after 10 years. The rest are either divorced or living in a shell of a marriage and sucking other men's cocks on the side while trying to maintain a normal home life.
Okay, say they opt for the easy way, and stay married, but live separate lives. If she gets pregnant by another goofball, the legal husband will be legally responsible for it.
Is it normal to give up having sex with my wife?

People get upset when [marriage] the social normal fails or does something different.
Ten years is a good ride, but now go get a divorce.
And yes, people would be upset with you if it was another woman.

So an even better solution; sterilize the woman.
