Is it normal to get taken advantage of by scams?

  • I am not sure what to make of this. I have just been aware of two scams recently. One of them involves me going to a chiropractor. I have spent all of my money and went to their office about 3 times a week when I could and yet I do not feel much better. The worst of it is that my arm has been becoming "subluxated" repeatedly and I have paid for the doctor to put it into place about 6 times, yet it goes back out of place each time. I couldn't afford to go recently, and I didn't, and I'm surviving. My arm hasn't gotten any better after the adjustments, in fact it's gotten worse. I looked up whether chiropractic care actually works and I found out that it can, but the practices my doctor has been performing on me can actually hurt me. I did notice a couple of red flags over the years, but I believe in alternative medicine and I thought, "I'm not a doctor. I shouldn't question these things."

The second scam I fell for was believing my former S.O. even when I had caught them in their lies. They gave me a good enough reason for the lies, they told me some truths, and I thought that was all that they had lied about. I asked multiple times if there were anymore, and I told them to tell me now and that I would still be with them, and they said that there were no more lies that they could remember, and if they did remember they would tell me. I feel so stupid. I found out they were lying about something today, and it's something that seemed weird all along and that I almost found out about during that first confrontation. We talked about it. They had every instance to tell me the truth, but they kept up the lie until the last time we spoke to each other. I asked them to tell me the truth and clarify the weird thing several times and they didn't. They just kept lying.

I'm sorry this is getting long, but you're usually nice enough to listen and reply dappled and I kind of need someone to do that. Don't feel obligated to write to me if you have something else to do though.

My S.O. has other issues. I guess... them lying to me isn't suprising. The doctor thing I don't know how I could have avoided that or what there is to learn from that apart from when you buy something you should look up reviews online and stay away from it if you read enough negative feedback. Well, that's something.
