Is it normal to get migraines?

I have been having bad migraines for about 6 years and the longest I have ever went without having one is 5 weeks. I usually get one every week. I am missing school alot and my friends who have never had a proper migraine get on at me for being off so frequently. When they see me with a migraine I will only be at the stage of visual disturbance which at that point I am in no pain. They basically think I am pretending.

I feel for you!!! I have migraines also. Sometimes the only thing you can so is force yourself to sleep, of course after taking meds. A few years ago I had a migraine for almost 3 months!!! Doctors did tests, injections and about 10 different meds. Finally, she put me on Topamaz (sp), it really helped but there are side affects. But it was MUCH better than a migraine by a long shot!!! Good luck and yes, you need to get it checked out!!! :)

People who have never experienced the debilitation of a migraine often think it's just like a bad headache. They just have no idea.

Mine were triggered by stress. I would clench my jaw in my sleep and the point where 3 muscles crossed would never relax and send pain into my head. I also have TMJ which only added to the problem. I got a night guard and it helped some. Now that I am no longer in school I only get them a few times a year.

I had them too, sometiles i even couldnt talk or write something down, there was a giant blind spot to the left of me, i had to puke and an immense headacha lasting sometiles for 8h. Migraine is hell, but that was when i was an teen. Now it's over and i'm so thankfull for that. I went to a a guy that gives medicines made out of plants, a homeopaat( dunno how to say in english) and after that it stopped ^^

Yeah normal - though there are varied reasons behind why people get them as to whether that is normal it changes from person to person. They are a right pain in the backside! I get nausea with mine and start vomiting and all I do is cry curled up in the dark wanting to rip my eyeball out of my skull. The only way for me to get rid of them is hours and hours of sleep in a dark room - no form of paracetamol helps me and once I feel one coming on theres nothing I can do about it!

It may not be "normal," but a LOT of people get migraines. I used to get them when I was younger. What I started doing is if I even THINK I'm getting a headache, I immediately take 2 Anacin tablets (the kind containing aspirin and caffeine) and as long as I've been doing that, the only migraine I've had was one I got when I left my Anacin at home one day.

Normal to get migraines, but seems like you're having them an awful lot. I think seeing a doctor if you haven't or if you have, trying something new would be important. Not only because of your friends, but missing school a lot can cause huge problems. Good luck!

Migraines are a total pain in the bum and it's not unusual to get them. I too have them from time to time. However, with the frequency you seem to be getting them you may want to speak with your doctor about one of the controler meds for them. They may help you.
