There are a few different gym types. Some probably hate you out of jealousy, some if you don't clean the area, some think you're lifting wrong or cheating, some think you're weaker than them, some think getting pointlessly buff is retarded and that you should really only be that buff if you're an athlete or actually need to do it, some might just not like the way you look whether it be race or your demeanor. Gym generally isn't a fun group outing, it's each person alone. A lot of people work out because they have to to keep from getting fat, therefore are just mad or upset in general...there are only so many hours in a day.
If you've already got the confidence to lift in public, none of this should bother you. If you continue to worry about it, you may just end up dropping the weights on accident or something and hurting yourself
