Is it normal to get a tattoo to hide scars?

Okay so I went through some bad places between November 2011 up until recently, and I'm thinking to get a tattoo or tattoos to cover the scars that were left behind. I was just wondering if this was a normal thing to cover scars with tattoos.

You can, but depending on where the scar is, it hurts like fuck.

well id didnt hurt to make the scars really just the depth that they were is what hurt, and being on the shoulder i dont think it will be too too painfull to tattoo over

Before I read the 1st comment that says you can't tattoo over scar tissue, I thought that was a brilliant idea.

I'm thinking of tattooing over my stretch marks on my hips that I got while I was pregnant with my son. They're considered scars, maybe smoother than other scars, like scars from injuries. But I'm sure it's the same concept.

You shouldn't hide your scars they are a reminder of who you are and who you were you should never forget that.

You can't tattoo over scar tissue. You might be able to camouflage it though.

Some tattoos can be tattooed over while others cannot. You should ask a tattoo artist, they will be able to give you a absolute answer.

Never use a cheep and/or shady tattoo shop.

      NEVER!

Not looking to cover an old tattoo looking to cover self harm scars, to hide them a bit so i can walk around in a tanktop and not have anyone see them if they just glance at my shoulder

Sorry I meant to say scars I just messed up. Ya but really it really just depends on how bad the scar is. If it is fairly smooth it should be fine, if not they sell stuff to help make it smoother.

Find a good artist. Explain what you're trying to do and they will work with you to make it happen.

You can but the scar will show through, it's not a flat surface of skin. That is why I said you may be able to camouflage it. It's still going to be visible. Yes, you can run a needle over a scar but the scar is still there.

I don't see a problem with your plan, but do keep in mind that tattoos are forever (especially if done over scars) and you should choose very wisely. Placing tattoos on parts of your body that will change over your lifetime can make a tattoo that looks cool now look pretty unattractive later in life.

im not too worried about the location since no one will really ever see it and its on shoulder which i dont expect to change much over my lifetime
