Is it normal to game everyday?

I have a addiction about gaming so I was wondering if it was ok if it was normal to game everyday.

It depends on how it affects your life.

I game almost every day, but only when I have free time, which is usually only about 45 mins before I go to bed. The rest of the time I'm too busy with other stuff. Occassionally I get a day where all the kids are occupied with something else and I don't have anything else urgent that needs doing, or any social plans, and on those days I game as much as I can. Sometimes as much as 3 or 4 hours. But that hardly ever happens. I fucking love gaming and could easily spend an entire day doing it, if my lifestyle allowed it. Sadly it does not.

If I was shirking my responsibilities in order to game, or if I was purposefully avoiding making social arrangements or not spending time with my kids, then I would consider myself an addict. But when I'm only doing it in time that is genuinely free time, I think it's fair for me to class it as a hobby, rather than an addiction.

So the question isn't really how many hours a day you game for, but what else are doing? Does it interfere with work, family, social life? Do you still make time to cook meals, clean your house and take showers?

Playing video games everyday is fine as long as you don't become one of those weirdos that let's it get in the way of eating, sleeping, working, learning, and keeping a roof over your head.

    It depends on how much.
Gaming is one of the most common hobbies and it's normal to relax with your favorite video games everyday but not if it takes over your life and keeps you from being productive and taking care of yourself.

SURE! It's how I wind down. As long as it doesn't affect your relationships or make you lose sleep doing it, go for it.

Of course it is fine, unless it affects your productivity or health.

If you have an addictive personality it's completely normal...

The biggest drawback to gaming is lost time. Unless you're messed up in the head and gaming is the alternative to medicating with drugs and alcohol.

The key question is how much and how does it affect the rest of your life.

In my generation a lot of people do the daily crossword puzzle from any of several major newspapers. That takes at least a half an hour and may take an hour. It has the benefit of keeping them mentally sharp and active in their older years (and more of these survive with a better life than people who never did crossword puzzles - or similar routine mental challenging activities).

I have a grandmother who spent her life playing cards and scrabble. In her 90's she could decisively beat almost anyone other than her fellow similar aged game players and was sharp as a tack (I played with her routinely for a few years when I visited - it was never ever even a close contest; and I was not a bad card player in my age group).

When I was a bit younger some people routinely spent an hour a day making love with their partner (including cuddle and talk time) which often last at least an hour. That has the benefit of a higher quality of life with your partner.

I'm not sure what benefit playing your game has. Can you identify one (other than self satisfaction).

At the same time everyone needs some recreation time every day as well.

I'd say that if you spend more than 1 hour a day routinely doing something without a meaningful benefit then you are likely negatively affecting your life and future.

There are better ways to spend your time that will produce better results.

Choose your daily time use addictions well...

I wish you the best with this,

  • A good way to determine this is to ask if it's normal to watch TV every day, even if it's an hour a day. Is that normal? Then it's normal with gaming.

Is that the only reason you think you have an addiction? If so, then I wouldn't say you do have an addiction. Well it'd depend on how many hours per day you game for at least.
