Maybe you just have high standards or a particular set of traits that attract you. I suggest networking more, I'm sure you'll find more 8s or 9s then.
And the thing about your friends talking about girls like that: they're literally just doing it for show. It's a facade so they can be 'one of the lads'. I do it with my friends but it's not in a serious context it's mainly just a bit of banter. :)
