In Star Trek: Voyager, the EMH is written as intelligent and having a personality, but what's the big difference between the EMH and other holograms? If other holograms were as intelligent as the EMH, that's a bit disturbing. Wouldn't it suck to be a hologram? Even if the EMH isn't intelligent, that just means the entire Voyager crew is crazy.

    I think maybe the idea was to have the doc start out as a regular hologram and as he learned more and more and his program becomes more complex he develops more into a person.

    They kinda explored what it would be like to be a hologram in TNG with that detective program Picard and Ginen got trapped in.
