Is it normal to feel wrong eating in public?

I don't like to eat in public places like cafeterias or food courts. I feel horrible when I do. I'm ok with eying in sit down reteraunts but I still feel awkward in them. I don't like to eat when I'm at a friends house... Basically I don't like to let people see me eat if I don't have to. I'm I alone in this? Is it normal?

You're not alone. It's a specific type of social phobia. Some people are afraid to write in front of other people, or to eat, or to make eye contact, or (a big one) to speak in front of a crowd.

In high school I refused to eat in the cafeteria. I'd eat a candy bar and drink water. Still now to this day I don't think I'd eat in a food court or cafeteria...I also don't like to eat on dates.

It's not massively uncommon. I went through a phase like this and I have a friend who wouldn't even suck a boiled sweet in public.
