Is it normal to feel trapped?

I'm 20.Kind of bored with life and I feel like I am still waiting for my "adventure",you know what I mean? For a long time I would tell myself "Today is the day.Today is the day something great happens to me." Maybe I have just read too many Children's books, but I feel like great things can happen and I am just waiting for my ship to sail in.Does everyone feel this way? Like you are (I know it sounds silly, but) waiting for your lifes greatest adventure to begin?

Is It Normal?

  • Yea it is very normal. I think we get to a point pretty quickly as young adults where it seems the forced schedule is over for us (high school and parents). Now we're supposed to be able to do whatever we want, or more importantly, whatever we are 'meant' to do. The problem comes in waiting for it to find us as opposed to going out and chasing it...or at least exploring around a bit. I have a friend that drove across the country just to clear his head and open himself up to any possibilities that could come his way. I've personally experienced the extreme of both ends (chasing vs. waiting)and honestly I'm still recovering mentally from the waiting part. If you're not careful, waiting will slowly morphe you into that lazy, depressed, scared person you NEVER thought you could ever become.

  • I hope your actually doing something to push your life forward. My ex-best friend kept "waiting for something to happen"...what happened was I got sick of her lack of reality and ambition and dropped her as a friend. You want to get out of the "stuck" feeling? Make sure you're moving forward. I'm feeling the same...but I'm doing so knowing that in a few years, I won't anymore. I think the twenties are the "journey out of the rut" days. Take advantage of it, or stay trapped forever.

  • It is normal but don't wait for it, YOU make it happen'

  • Of course. But one thing I do know is that you can't just wait for it to just come to you and happen. You've got to go out there and do it. That's not always the easiest thing, but that's sort of the point, isn't it?

There's so much you could do if you don't let yourself be at the mercy of your fear.

    • I agree!

Great that you are all suited u an ready for the adventure. But you may need to do a bit more than just wait. Seize the moment! Otherwise the only thing sailing your way may be disappointment.
