Is it normal to feel sorry for the villians?

I always seem to sympathize with the bad guys. I cried when Voldermort and Darth Vader died. The Wicked Witch wasn't so bad, she was just a little upset because some brat killed her sister AND stole her sister's shoes! I was glad when Javier Bardem's character Anton Chigurh got away with everything in No Country For Old Men.

Villians need love too!

  • In a way I agree and disagree with you. Sometimes I feel sympathetic towards a villain, purely because I wonder what happened to make them what they are. But I don't sympathize their actions. Hmmm, you've got me thinking now :-)

  • Only if they had a justification, which they nearly always do in films. But in real life when people are evil, feeling sorry for them is irritating to me.

  • I almost always root for the villains. Of course, it's rare for the villains to win:(

  • ^lol

I do too at times but I think it's because you (and I) empathize with certain traits.

  • I felt slightly sad about Darth Vader dying until I saw this:

Now I can't think about it without giggling.

  • I sometimes feel like that. I always felt bad for Rutger Hauer in The Hitcher, no idea why.
