Is it normal to feel sorry for african americans?

Whenever I see a black male that is trying to do good I always root for them with a passion whether its on t.v.,my friends in real life, or in sports. I especially feel sorry for the African Americans that get in trouble on "cops" unless its like a crackhead that beats his wife. I guess I just want to see them do good. Is this normal?

No, everyone struggles. But remember it was not just the blacks who have struggled as a group. Many whites, latinos, asians etc. throughout history have dealt with many tragedies. I believe that no group, whether it be race, religion, etc. etc. Should be given any privileges. But treating equally since we all as human beings have to struggle throughout our lives. Although there is much argument and overall controversy on this topic.

    But anyway.....

Are you white? If so.. you are having what is called: "White Guilt". Please, I personally think it is pathetic. Have pride, don't discriminate.

so true. we have all been convinced into beliving we are responsible for teh 'suffering' of balck people and are always taught that the african-eurpoean slave trade was racially motivated. its rubbish. my friend who is african born but raised in engladn has a slave in africa who lives at his fathers house. people are ignorant to this and simply want to blame people so blame the 'white people'. i am nto a 'white person', i am a person who is white. theres a difference. peoples ignroance to this really bugs me, and its a major form of racism in itself. we all need to NOT focus on who we are and stop catagorising everyone and just live amongst eachotehr regardles of who are what they are. here will never be peace and unity so long as people claim to belogn to a certain group.

  • We've got a man in the white house, so I think we're doing alright.

It's fine to hope for anyone to succeed, but if it is only because they are black, then you are sort of in the wrong. Black are not the only group that struggled, and not everyone of them is down on their luck. If it's because of "white guilt", then it's just stupid. I'm sure you have never enslaved a black person. You are not going to pay for the sins of your forefathers.

Though that's really nice to hear, it can often get a little patronising. If you feel compassion towards the black community, donate some money to an anti-racism charity or one that helps out in the projects or something. (as racist as that sounds, it's a big issue in the black community in America as far as I'm aware)

Apart from that, don't overdo it and remember that we are all equals.

  • I don't waste my time feeling "sorry" for anyone. Its not like I am SO MUCH better off b/c I am the "Queen of the World", an immortal, and, I can fly. Every human being on this planet has a purpose for being here and that purpose is not governed by me.

  • Feel sorry for the unfortunate not the unwilling. If you can be president you are not being held back so they have no need for someone to root for them anymore than you need someone rooting for you because your butt ugly..
