Is it normal to feel so offended when someone underestimates you?

I'm only offended because I know in my heart it isn't true.
Here's the scenario : One of my colleagues is currently on leave. Subsequently her work was to be devided betweem myself and another colleague.
I am the bookkeeper but they only do the invoicing, so it's definitely nothing I can't cope with.
However, after a while I realise that I'm not getting any extra work to do. I heard today that it's because my colleague thinks I'm too stupid and that I won't understand what they are doing? What the hell? Then why keep me employed at all? Cause if I'm too stupid to help with simple invoicing, then I'm obviously too stupid to deal with the rest of the financials? arrrg. So frustrated.
I have more knowledge in my head than the two of them combined, but because of my social awkwardness (or at least I think that's why) I struggle to explain things and I need to think long and hard before explaining something to someone else. So maybe it's because of that that they think I'm dumb?

It helps to anticipate questions and have predetermined answers.

If you practice at it, you can even steer conversation towards things you have an easy time sounding more authoritative.

Yes it's normal to be offended, I would be. I don't know what advice to give because it's difficult to change what people think of you. Maybe they don't see you as stupid but more as someone who's too conceited. From my experience I know that people often think that of people who keep to themselves.

It motivates me when someone doesn't think I can do something.

Happens to me all the time. I get offended then realize this isn't my career, I don't care about these people, and less work with the same pay. So at the end of the day yay you. I am socially awkward and try to keep to myself most people tell all their business to establish a relationship and kiss butt, it eventually backfires.

It's normal but I personally never get offended. When I surpass other peoples expectations I think of it as a victory of sorts. I see it as an opportunity to give something my all and kick ass.

I do get offended but it's counterbalanced by the feeling of satisfaction when I prove them wrong
