Is it normal to feel sad because my boyfriend knocked me down?

I didn't know how to ask or how to tag this so I'm sorry in advance.

I'm a bellydancer... not a professional... and I was learning some choreography to do a dance infront of my boyfriend. To one of his favourite songs "Every rose has it's thorn"
As I was rehearsing, he walked in on me and said "Don't dance to that song, it's been ruined for me" then left...
After he said that, I just wanted to give up bellydancing all together... like I did all that work coming up with the choreography and everything just for him to basically say that he's not interested... I even made my own bellydance costume for that dance, it was black with red roses on. Looks kinda gothic.

Is it normal for me to be so upset about this?

*he told me that his sister in law ruined the song for him I don't know how*

I disagree. If one despises a song, they should tell their significant other before they perform an elaborate dance for them to the song.

He loves the song and didn't tell me about his stepsister "ruining it" so how was I supposed to know? He's constantly singing that song and he tells me he loves it...

How were you supposed to know? He told you; that's how! Would you rather he didn't tell you, and you stay unknowing?

He told me only after I learnt the dance. I wasted so much time on it

Did he even know you were learning the dance?

At least he didn't knock you up. I know that was both a terrible joke and low-hanging fruit, but I had to.

I'm not surprised he'd be a jerk with that taste in music.

I dont think he was critiquing your dancing it sounds like he just didnt want you to do that song. When I hear the song "walk" by Pantera it takes me back to when I got my first bad ass beating in a street fight. So I try not to listen to it.

He loves the song. He sings along to it when it's on the radio and everything so I thought I will dance to it for him so I taught myself the choreography for the whole dance then he came in and told me not to do it... it took me around 3 hours to plan and rehearse it all... he never told me about his stepsister ruining it for him before...

And I am so sorry about that...

it's definitely normal for you to be upset. he should have said this in a nicer way even if it brought up some bad associations he has. you were trying to do something nice for him and he was pretty mean about it. i get why he might have reacted that way if he was reminded of something he doesn't wanna be reminded of and his first reaction was to be sort of mean about it, but you guys should talk about this.
bellydancing is so cool by the way.

Just do the dance to a different song. That's a pretty simple song so you can probably just use the same dance on a better song

Don't be so fragile and expect everyone to like what you do. You keep doing what you do and don't worry about someone else. You're probably beautiful and he might have an issue with that Poison song. Separate the issues. Let him cry away while you perform elsewhere. Don't force the 2 together if you can help it.

Thanks, it just upset me that I took a while to plan it all and rehearse it just for him to tell me not to do it...
I really don't think I'm beautiful but if you're curious to know what I look like, I have an Instagram account where I post myself bellydancing πŸ™ˆ
