Is it normal to feel like your going to pass out ?

This doesn't happen every time but its been happening a lot recently. Whenever I get out of the shower I feel like I'm gonna pass out ! Black blotches show up in my vision and my ears start ringing and I feel really light headed . The first time it happened I thought it was because I hadn't been drinking enough water , but I'll drink like , 3 glasses and it will still happen.

Please help me ! What should I do ?

  • It's a common condition called Orthostatic hypotension. When standing, your blood pools down to your lower extremities and this process is increased by the heat from the shower. If your heart rate also accelerates you should see your doc and get tested for POTS.

  • This happened to me in high school. Consult your doctor - they may send you to a cardiologist like they did me. I was told I had orthostatic hypotension and it is fairly common in young women. Hot showers can also bring on the symptoms.

  • Well, it MIGHT be the sign of something serious, but first I'd like you to try something...

Try making the temperature of the water cooler than it is when you normally take it. If the shower is too hot, you may start to feel faint. I love a hot shower, but when I start to feel faint, I have to turn down the temperature.

Also... try getting a good nights sleep. Lack of sleep combined with standing in the shower can also make someone feel faint.

If you've tried both of these things and you STILL have this problem, then you should definitely consult a doctor.

  • It could be from a medication you are taking. I can't have hot showers at all because I pass out. I went to my doctor and we found out I have a disease where I can't sweat. There are many possible explanations. Please go to your doctor and get things checked out. Good luck.

  • Headrush. I had one and almost fainted and lost almost all vision for a moment. It happens at random intervals of the day, most likely if you do something too fast, like climbing stairs or do something highly active then suddenly stop. the will happen sometimes but if they happen too much, you should see a doctor about it.

  • It may be that your not getting enough oxygen to your brain during the shower. The water may be too hot so it evaporates quickly and takes up the air with more steam then oxygen! so when you inhale you take in steam instead of oxygen. which would cause a blackout.

  • You may not be getting enough blood or oxygen in your brain, or not eating enough or eating right gealthy foods.

  • It's probably because your blood changes temps so drastically? Like when I come back in the house from tanning in the hot sun this happens to me. Your body may just be adjusting. As long as you go back to normal soon after. But maybe your water is too hott
