is it normal to feel like this after stopping?...

  • 100% normal.

I had almost the exact, exact same experience as you. It's uncanny.

You can try NA meetings to find out ways to cope (you may already have experience w/this). It's very different than AA meetings, I've been to both.

I used to think I was exceptional and there was no reason to have to go to the meetings, etc. (it was for legal reasons), but once I was there I actually tried to get something out of it.

They said something like, "once an addict, always an addict" which I resented, but eventually I understood what they were saying.

Know yourself, know your limits and what you can handle, and go with that.

If you are lucky enough to have been clean long enough to not be going through withdrawl, suffering other latent physical/psychological symptoms or having it consume your thoughts most of the day, stay away. Do some kind of exercise routine when you think about it, and keep doing it until you forget. Exercise does the same thing for you, but in a much healthier way, obviously.
