Is it normal to feel like i'm too asian?

I'm asian and I live in America. 75% Vietnamese and 25% Chinese. I am obsessed with dramas and animes. I always listen to K-pop and Vietnamese songs. I follow my Vietnamese traditions and I LOVE asian food. 76% of my friends are asian. My friends say I'm too asian and that I need to be more American. I have a brother who is the TOTAL opposite of me. I feel like I'm too asian. Is that normal?!?!?

It just so happens you have the kind of personality to like anime and other things. And it is just a coincidence most of your friends are asian. Tell your brother to stop being a cock.

You're not obligated to choose interests and activities that disprove racial stereotypes. Do what you like.

the "76% of my friends are asian" part made me laugh. Did you actually calculate that?

My answer is.... if you're happy ,why would you have to change?

No your not to Asian. Being too Asian can kill you. Back in like 97 this occured after watching a pokemon episode. Hundreds of japanese kids overdosed on Asian-ness and had seizures. Beware!

Were you born in America? If not, how old were you when you moved?

For instance, my first proper girlfriend left America before the age of two and grew up in various places in Europe. She was very definitely American, though. She had a regional American accent, always went to American schools in Europe and socialised with other Americans.

It didn't seem at all odd to me that she kept her original culture despite barely ever experiencing it. I don't why it should be any different for you.

You can't be too Asian or too White or too Black

You are human no matter what you do

Animes dont make you Asian ive met alot of Japanese people who think Animes are lame and koreans that love American/European Dj's and not k-pop

The only thing that can make you things like "too chinese" or "too korean" if you

    1: Live in the country
2: Follow all the ancient traditions
3: Believe in the gods of the country
4: Use things originally from the country -modern or classic-

I don't think you're too Asian. If you like k-pop and anime why change? To appeal to who, your brother? He's just being ridiculous.

There's no such thing as "too Asian" or any race for that matter. You didn't choose your heritage, it's probably coincidence that most of your friends are Asian, and it's okay to like what you like. Embrace who you are!

    You like what you like.

There are plenty of non asians who obsess over asian stuff, and plenty of asians who have little to no interest in their ancestral culture. Do what makes you happy.

Spose that all must feel a bit weird living in America but hey we have to be what we are and if that's what you prefer then that's what you should be.
