The first time I felt really emotionally numb and it kind of scared me because I felt like I might be a sociopath or something. I was on antidepressants and anti-anxiety medication that really wasn't working for me and I noticed the feeling went away once I got off of them. That isn't to say that you should just get off of any medication you're on without a lot of consideration, however. If you have a legitimate reason for needing a medication, you should discuss alternatives with your doctor instead.
Another time, I went through this really weird phase of feeling like something was missing and I didn't know what, and it bugged the hell out of me for the longest time. Thankfully, it passed, and I look back on it and realize that I was going through an intense phase of growth during that time.
