Is it normal to feel embarrassed about parents smoking?

My parents smoke, and I am really worried, none of my other friends parents smoke but mine do. I don't want friends to come round because they can see the cigarette butts. They are lovely people and all, but I'm embarrassed. When I was at school, when the subject smoking comes up I say nothing. I feel awful, I have tried to do something about it, but they just get angry, they want to stop, but I don't they will. I'm scared they will die early.

    Want mine? They like to exclaim loudly how stupid and ugly smokers are when ever they see them. As if shaming someone will make them quit.

    I think most of us are embarrassed by our parents for one reason or another. No one will judge you for your parent's habits. And if they do, fuck em'.

    Oh I understand your concern about your parents smoking. Just one thing, don't patronise your parents because it can backfire so easily, you should be positive and encourage them to quit.

    Just be open about it and tell them how you feel about them smoking.

    Well, smoking has become as normal as breathing is. I honestly don't think it's normal that you're offended by it, but it's only my opinion. I'm no one to judge.

    Have you tried talking to them about it? You're their kid, I'm sure it'll have an effect on them.

    Cigarettes or " cancer sticks" as I call them killed my father at 54 years old

    totally normal to have concerns, but you shouldn't be embarrassed necessarily. a lot of people today smoke. i know my boyfriend is embarrassed about his parents smoking

    OMG MY PARENTS ARE THE SAME :) My friends are kinda the same, but at least I have a friend as well who's parents smoke, so when people gang up on us we stick together :)

    I wouldn't think it was something you should be overly embarrassed about though, no.
