Is it normal to feel dissociative and alone on adhd meds

I was diagnosed with ADHD later in life and now take a high dosage of Dex to keep me "sane". Whilst it keeps me grounded, I drink a lot more alcohol and find that I am somewhat trapped in my own mind. I hold back from telling my partner my feelings simply because I don't know how to express them and I don't feel like I'm being the best wife that I can be. I don't know how to tell him how I honesty feel because he's put up with so much of my crap in the past and I don't want to jeopardise our relationship.

Smoke weed. Now listen to the whole story.

I myself am hooked up on some adhd (Concerta) and am taking 36mg. I find that I am much less emotion filled then I used to be and often at an alarming level. I'm married now and love my wife so much but I can honestly say when my emotions are low, I could care less if she wasn't home. Like it's nice and all to have someone to come home to but I could get that somewhere else, that's the mind frame.

Now I do need some extra help with my adhd which is why I have elected to stay on them, however instead of going to a higher dose, I started smoking a bit of weed to help focus in the evenings after my meds wore off as that is the hardest time for me. With this weed, I have found I am able to feel empathy more; with the adhd meds, I just felt so emotionless. Not angry or really anything but just empty.

Now I don't think weed is the save all, but it does negate some of the negative effects from the adhd meds; loss of appitite, insomnia and lack of empathy were my biggest things with the meds.

I've tried just the weed and it wasn't enough and just the meds still had things a bit wonky. Unfortunately there is no easy answer; the brain chemicals involved in adhd is quite complex giving no easy answer

Tell your doctor that the meds are doing that.

My step son has tried numerous meds to find out which ones work the best for him. I would definitely talk to your doctor and either adjust dosage or try a different med. Big change in attitude now compared to last med he was on

Definitely get your dose lowered, if a drug makes you feel unhappy it needs reviewing.
