While it's true that animals kill their own disabled, people should be more advanced than this. When I was a kid there was a family who we knew who had a retarded son and I remember the uncomfortable feelings I had toward him. I remember thinking that there was something wrong with the whole family. Fast forward 20 or so years later and my oldest son was injured at birth and he was diagnosed with severe brain damage. Our phone stopped ringing first off and then a stead distancing of family and friends until now, my husband and me and my son at age 37 plus our three other kids are totally isolated. We don't get invited anywhere, no holidays, no parties, and certainly not weddings. Our neighbors pretend we don't exist and make up stupid reasons why they don't like us. It is very transparent. My point only is this. The families of disabled people are isolated, if you can't handle being with the disabled one don't isolate the entire family. If you're a close family member make a point of having a close relationship with one of the siblings because they have issues always dealing. Be friends with the mom or the dad. But realize this, kids. We, the families of the disabled have much more depth than those of you who do not. Our priorities are in order and we don't really care about stupid shit. But being isolated isn't good for anyone so at least be kind to the family. There's nothing wrong with us. We had stuff to teach you.
Is it normal to feel disgusted by the mentally disabled?
