Is it normal to feel depressed after seeing someone commit suicide?

I was at the train station today taking a train from college back home. It was around 3 PM so before the rush hour when everyone tries getting home from work and the station is crowded. I see that my train is coming in 5 minutes and walk around. A train comes into the station and although I'm far away, I hear this crazy screaming. A woman's voice is screaming loudly and hysterically. I look around and hear that a woman had jumped into the moving train. The thought sends a shiver down my spine, and her screams become nails on the chalk board of my soul. The screams become more terrifying to me because I understand that it wasn't accidental and she had been trying to kill herself but maybe she underestimated how painful it would be. That whole day I keep thinking what made the woman take her own life, what she looked like, what she had experienced, and how she was feeling in the seconds before she decided to jump. It really makes me think about the value of human life.

  • Yeah, that sounds horrible. I would think that not being shocked by experiencing that would be the weird thing.

  • Yes, though I've not really experienced anything too similar to that, I think it is probably normal that you are feeling that way. Maybe you can find something that will help you appreciate the good things in life and feel better. The kindheartedness of some people perhaps?

  • She was a waste of a good fuck too probably. That is the sad part here. If she had the nerve to throw herself in the path of a train imagine if she was in bed...WOW!!!

  • Something like 150,000 people die everyday, I wouldn't worry too much about a single person.

    • There not many 'good' or 'smart' ways to kill yourself. They all end the same way and take about the same amount of time. Pills are probably the only practical way that isn't instant.

      • Yes but throwing yourself in front of a train is a selfish way to do it, it has the potential to destroy the train operators life or any number of potential witnesses, most people psychologically won't be able to handle watching a person effectively explode in front of them.

        • The stupidest thing about using a train is how much it has to hurt. If someone is going to commit suicide you would think they would choose a quick painless way rather than be crushed by a train.
