Biologically a dead end? Not really. A trait need not lead to reproduction to continue on genetically. As a society, much of the time we have too many children to take care of as it is and so the influx of more potential parents without reproductive capabilities would actually be advantageous.
Besides all that, what is the problem if something is unnatural or biologically a dead end? Nearly everything the human race does is unnatural to some extent and if something is biologically a dead end that would just mean that we wouldn't have the problem soon enough anyways.
