Is it normal to fear wearing sunglasses?

I like sunglasses but, I worry about wearing them because I think people are looking at me like I think I'm cool or something. I know this is probably dumb to some people but, I genuinely feel embarrassed to wear them fearing that people will laugh.

If you want to seem really cool when wearing sunglasses, play this song -

If you do not trust the link, jus look up a song called "The future's so bright, I gotta wear shades".

On the part when he says "I gotta wear shades", tilt your sunglasses up as you look at people. They will think you are SUPER COOL. Of course children of the 80's(aka "Gen X'ers") will groan and roll their eyes.

Well... you're one of the lucky ones with 20/20 vision aren't you?😎

I'm assuming you don't wear cantactlens or wears prescription sunglasses right?

I can't see 5 feet away clearly without my real glasses.🙄

That's not about fear of the sunglasses, merely unfounded fear of what people will think of you for wearing them. Unless you're wearing them at night or in dark places, nobody will think anything of you, let alone laugh.

It's sad you're so self conscious that you think anyone is going to even notice you for wearing sunglasses: maybe you need to work on your self esteem?

PS: If you're so self conscious that you don't wear sunglasses on sunny days you're unnecessarily exposing your eyes to ultra violet light and that can have some very nasty effects if you keep it up.

This is very true. I have sun damage in my left eye. I tried to wear sunglasses almost always when I lived in Las Vegas, but I still am at a risk for skin cancer. I honestly hope and pray that it never turns into skin cancer in my eye, because I prefer to have two eyes.

Now that I live in Dover, Delaware I feel better about my skin, and eyes, because it's humid, overcast and rains a lot here.

I don't think most Americans are aware that they can get sun damage in their eyes. At the time the sun damage was discovered my Ophthalmologist told me that I had something rare that usually only happened to pale blond people with light blue eyes in Australia. I remember my doctor asking me what my ethnicity was, and after I told him I was Spanish, German, Welsh, and Scot-Irish he told me point blank to just stay out of the sun. It's scary having a condition at leaves me at a risk for cancer, I probably need to have my eyes checked again soon.

Sorry for the long, pour my heart out sort of comment. I think I vaguely remember talking to you about this a few years ago. Sun damage, and skin cancer are no joke.

          Nothing to apologise for!

It's not only pale blondes with light blue eyes who have sun damage in Australia: many Indigenous people go blind if they're not treated

  • It’s just a silly phobia you have to ignore when you wear your sunglasses.
