Is it normal to fear the sound of a machine??

especially the sounds made by cranes, airconditioner, motorbikes, construction equipments etc. to the point that i will give up anything i do or have just not to hear those sounds..

    How about your computer's fan and Hard Drive?
    They make mechanical noises too!

      yay i forgot the fan... i turn it off when im sleeping even the temprture is really really hot!! the result is... im not able to sleep...

        I used to do that for the quiet. Not out of fear, but because I needed complete silence and darkness to fall asleep.
        The CPU fan never made noise (speed managed by MB to run as quietly as possible), but I wired a switch to turn off all the others.

        Now I can fall asleep with the noise, so I don't bother any more. It has actually become weird to not hear it (on the rare occasion that I actually shut it down)
