You may be surprised; my parents religious background is part of the reason why they still consider me their child, regardless of the choices and decisions i've made in my life. I'm in the bible belt too; was raised in a strict religious environmnet. I'm definitely the black sheep in the fam, but they still love me. We will NEVER see eye to eye on things. My mom every once in a while will remind me she prays for God to spare my soul and that I will come to my senses. But i still visit them every week and we're always there for each other.
It's easy to negatively judge or shun decisions your friends and family makes, but they may feel a little different if its their own son. Not saying it will be sweet and easy because it definitely wasn't for me (i didn't talk to them for about six months. But eventually, everyone calmed down. Good luck to you!
