I think love is love, whether or not it's reciprocated (as long as it involved two human adults). Many people often mistake unrequited love for "lust". I think it's possible for someone to fall in love with another person, even if the other person isn't even aware of the other's feelings or does not reciprocated. Hell, I even find it normal to fall in love with celebrities or your idea of them. Same with fictional characters.
That said, I think most people who fall in love with celebrities, fictional characters or emotionally unavailable people often know when it's not going to work out. That doesn't change their feelings for their loved ones.
