Is it normal to fake a identity

  • It is more common than you think. Some people just aren't comfortable with themselves and like to pretend to be something they are not.

There isn't much harm in it for others if you never plan to meet them in real life.

But seeing how much people like the fake you and how much others (might not) like the real you, could make your self esteem even lower than it already seems to be.

So in short, you are only hurting yourself.

    • Yeah, I agree. I can't think of anything worse for your self esteem than believing your friends only like a fake version of you.

Let me ask you a silly question: Why do you think that being fat means you "obviously" have low self-esteem and are "ugly as hell?" You can still love yourself. Body shapes and sizes change tremendously as you go through life; learn to love the one and only body you'll ever have, help it stay healthy and embrace the fact that it can change.

I think it can be a fun game to put on another persona in, say, a roleplaying game or on the stage or in writing, but it shouldn't be something you do to win the approval and affection of others. Why not put the creativity and effort you've devoted to creating your false front into fiction?

      • You mean non-fiction. But +100 likes. Both you guys.

And yes I do this sometimes. Because I sometimes I lack confidence in who I am as a being I will pretend I'm a character from a show or movie. And if I'm that person, then I'm really not 100% myself.

I think in general I try too hard to be something I am not, yet. But now nobody in my life actually understands who the fuck I am. And it makes me really sad. So my advice is no, don't do that.

Be the best version of yourself that you can be.
