Well, yeah, you should expect to get hit back. HOWEVER...the law only allows for a certain level of self defense depending on where you live and what the threat is. So on a personal level you can justify hitting back but legally it's a different territory.
You have to be reasonable. If a person who poses no real threat to your well-being, do you really think you should have the right to beat them to a pulp or kill them?
No, but no one really knows how they'll react to a situation till it happens to them. And one punch compared to her constant kicking amd spitting seems about fine.
