I think it's normal! I envy men in ways too, especially the fact that they don't have periods. Those absolutely suck. I also envy that they're not expected to wear makeup (I prefer to go without, but it's seen as "unprofessional" in my work environment), and that their clothes seem more comfortable and generally more well made. I hate that thin, clingy, hot material that women's shirts are made of and the fact that they wear out so quickly. Men's tennis shoes are so much more comfortable and fit me better than women's as well, but I've also gotten backlash about wearing them as well (not as dress shoes or anything, but for exercising in, running to the store, etc.). I envy how relaxed their friendships are as well and tend to click better with men than women most of the time. They seem less uptight and competitive, and more laid back and able to just relax and have fun with each other. There are several things I'm not wild about when it comes to being a girl sometimes as well.
Also, I'm not sure why it's not as socially acceptable for men to show their feelings and hug, etc. I honestly wish they did it more. My lifelong best friend is a guy and I LOVE hugs and hair stroking/playing from him. I can tell he feels weird about expressing his emotions sometimes and says he feels like he shouldn't feel a certain way because men aren't supposed to or "it's stupid for me to feel this way" or whatever, but I try to encourage him to express his emotions because I think it's important for everyone to, regardless of sex.
I just want to say that, indeed, men relationships tend to be more laid back, but (from what i have experienced) it is only between straight guys. I'm bi and affeminate, and my straight classmates treat me like trash. HOWEVER, my relationships with women are absolutely amazing, and all of the women in my classroom get along very well :)
[and keep encouraging him! That's really sweet of you :D]
Thank you, I will! :) I'm sorry the guys in your class treat you poorly, but I'm glad you get along well with the women and that they all get along with each other!
is it normal to envy women?
