The romans used the verb "cumere" where we use the verb "to eat" but it literally means "to be together/with people" This was it's original meaning and with time the two meanings "to eat" and "to be with people" became interchangeable because they never ate alone and never got together without sharing food. Food really is better when you eat together! How nice it is to share a pizza with friends or have a picnic or sunday lunch or go out to dinner with someone. I'd rather go hungry than eat alone, but then everyone is different!
